Nick's journey is a testament to resilience and hope in the face of adversity. In a twist of fate, he was initially misdiagnosed with hepatitis A until his journey led him to the Cleveland Clinic, where his life took a dramatic turn.

It was there that Nick received a life-changing diagnosis of perihilar cholangiocarcinoma, an exceptionally rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer. Typically asymptomatic until advanced stages, Nick's case was discovered early, thanks to the diligence of the medical team.

His prognosis seemed grim, with the cancer at a stage where intervention is often futile. However, Nick defied the odds as he was swiftly placed at the forefront of the liver transplant list in the United States.

Under the skilled hands of Dr. Aucejo, Nick underwent a grueling nine-hour surgery, during which the entire left lobe of his liver, part of the right lobe, and the common bile duct were removed. The procedure was extensive, requiring the reconstruction of Nick's entire biliary system.

But Nick's battle didn't end there. Following surgery, he embarked on a rigorous path of recovery, enduring multiple rounds of systemic chemotherapy. It was a slow and arduous journey, marked by moments of doubt and uncertainty.
